Partners in Pethood
Wagging Wishes promotes the adoption and rescuing of animals by adding adoptions to an existing event, such as the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival, or through hosting our own. The proceeds from our fundraisers, events, donations and supporters are used towards special projects needing attention.
- Transportation of animals needing to be relocated from inhumane conditions
- Expansion of rescue facilities
- Spay/Neuter fees
- Vet Care
- Natural Disasters which have an impact on animals
Not all shelters have the support, education nor time to meet their fundraising, expansion and event attendance goals. We collaborate with large San Diego based event productions to add an additional feature of adoptions.
Organizations we work with include specific breed, mixed breed, kill and no-kill shelters and animal hospitals. We are assuming this special cause because of our steadfast commitment to find loving and dedicated homes for these beautiful creatures and to improve their quality of life while here on this earth.
Between the 2017 and 2018 La Jolla Art and Wine Festival events, over 70 dogs and cats were adopted throughout the 10 organizations which attended the festival of over 40,000 people. However, this does not include applications which have higher estimations. Each year we hope to increase that amount while keeping in mind that:
“Saving just one dog won’t save the world, but surely it will change the world for that one dog.”
What Drives Us
To provide the exposure, opportunities and events for shelters to expand resources for special projects with an effect of lowering euthanasia rates, assisting with emergency disasters and other forms of support for animal welfare through collaboration as a community.

It’s – Approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats).
Approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. We estimate that the number of dogs and cats entering U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 7.2 million in 2011. The biggest decline was in dogs (from 3.9 million to 3.3 million).
Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats). The number of dogs and cats euthanized in U.S. shelters annually has declined from approximately 2.6 million in 2011. This decline can be partially explained by an increase in the percentage of animals adopted and an increase in the number of stray animals successfully returned to their owners.
